Oeuvres complètes de Maximilien Robespierre

The Oeuvres complètes de Maximilien Robespierre is a fully-searchable digital version of the ten-volume complete works of Maximilien Robespierre (1758-1794) published between 1910 and 1967 by the Société des études Robespierristes using several title variations (e.g. Oeuvres complètes de Maximilien Robespierre, Oeuvres de Maximilien Robespierre, Oeuvres complètes de Robespierre, etc.) The scanned page images that form the basis of this resource were provided by the Internet Archive.

For the purposes of this collection, we have standardized the main titles across the ten volumes. We have also attempted to remove many of the ancillary materials introduced by the editors of the print edition, including sections labeled "Introduction," "Préface," "Avant-propos," "Avertissement," "Note des éditeurs," and "Errata," so as to focus this work on words actually written by Robespierre.

We look forward to carrying out additional work on these volumes in the future, including tagging of the various individual works' original publication dates, signaling the forum in which particular speeches were given, and further refinement of our treatment of the print edition's editorial apparatus. This future work may also entail manual tagging of parts of the text that were not written by Robespierre but that were also not easily identifiable as such during the initial data capture. (Examples include correspondence between Robespierre and family in volume three, as well as records of hundreds of legislative sessions, found in volumes six through ten, in which Robespierre's utterances are interspersed with narrative summaries of other speeches and activities that took place during these meetings.) In future iterations of this resource, we would hope to be able to give users the ability to filter out this extraneous text and search only the words of Robespierre.

The digitization of this collection was made possible via an ongoing research and publication partnership between ARTFL and Professor Dan Edelstein of Stanford University.
